About BESA Connect
Our focus is to help our clients achieve their core business objectives and a balanced set of measurements that will lead to sustainable business performance excellence.
Established in 2004, originally as a partnership with Quality Strategies International, BESA Connect develops and delivers strategies that enable organisations to take their quality and other management systems to the next level.
Although the use of ISO standards is perceived as especially necessary in the manufacturing and mining industries, they are in fact extremely useful across most sectors. Organisations with numerous interacting processes need effective management systems. Those that use recognised management system standards perform much better than those that don’t.
We specialise in transforming current business practices into a seamless management system that speaks the language of top-tier corporates and strengthens the business performance.

Established in 2004, originally as a partnership with Quality Strategies International, BESA Connect develops and delivers strategies that enable organisations to take their quality and other management systems to the next level.
When I encountered my first QMS in a company I worked for many years ago, the oft-quipped received wisdom was: “Say what you do (i.e. write a procedure), and do what you say.” Developing a QMS was approached from a procedure writing standpoint.
The only time the subject of the QMS came up was when the external audit was approaching, when we ran around frantically “preparing” for the audit. After the audit, new bits were plastered onto the system, in an attempt to correct audit findings.
Of course, the standards have evolved since then, but the old perception often persists.
I learnt that in order to avoid creating a disjointed system that ends up being an additional burden to the business—the proverbial “tail wagging the dog”—a few critical steps are necessary to set the stage before you ever write your first procedure.
In my experience as both a consultant and auditor for large organisations, I’ve seen first-hand the struggles they sometimes face. They are managing complex interdependent processes, and being let down by the inconsistent or unpredictable performance of a supplier or contractor can have significant negative impacts.
These challenges drive some corporations to drastic measures, like acquiring their critical supply chains to minimise this risk; and regrettably, sometimes forcing small contractors out of business.
It struck me—if only SMEs understood the secrets to winning over purchasing departments, who won’t hesitate to cut ties with any vendor that can’t affirmatively answer the crucial question:
“Do you have a quality management system in place?
Or to put it another way,
“Can you consistently deliver the product/service that we want to purchase from you?”
Other corporates choose to focus on their core business and build the capacity of their SME suppliers so that they can be reliably served. This is a win-win solution which ultimately reduces due diligence costs.
